Megukana is a flashcard application for learning hiragana and katakana. Use up, down, left and right keys or mouse/touch to raise and swipe the card. Click the settings button at the top left to change deck settings.

Simple with no user-tracking or reporting. no advertisements. usable off-line, with any form factor. Browser session remembers your settings and card-selection state.

Some resources which I found helpful:

  • nihongoichiban
  • japandict
  • jisho
  • tofugu
  • nhk, easy
  • tae kim's guide to japanese grammar
  • comprehensive japanese guide
  • great listening while practicing kana

If you are seeing unicode replacement characters in the place of kanji (usually a dark colored rectangle wrapping question mark or numbers), try installing a cjk font, such as notofo cjk, and restarting your browser.

The sources for this application were made to mimic the flow of a cycle.js application, but without using a stream library.
